Whatever your level and your reason for learning, the lessons are built around you. We work on speaking, listening, reading and writing, with enough grammar to understand how the language fits together, not just to repeat it.
Materials made for you, not bought off a shelf
I don’t teach from a textbook. I create and choose all the materials myself, around your level, your goals and the situations you will use the language in. If you are preparing for a specific exam (Staatsexamen NT2, Inburgering or CNaVT), we can also work with the right book for it.
Full attention
Lessons are one-on-one or in small groups, so the pace and the focus are yours. Think of it as a personal trainer for your language: someone who watches what you are doing, corrects you on the spot, and adjusts the plan as you go.
Learning Dutch
I learned Dutch as an adult, to a level beyond most native speakers, and I know where learners get stuck and how to get you past it. I have spent years on both sides of the language-learning process, and that shapes how I approach my lessons. Most of my Dutch students are expats who want to feel at home in the Netherlands: for work, for the inburgering or NT2 exams, or simply to stop everyone switching to English on them.
Learning Spanish
Spanish is my mother tongue, but I have also studied it seriously: its grammar, its syntax, its literature. My background is in philosophy, and I have always been drawn to how language itself works, which is something teaching brought me back to with fresh eyes. Anyone can speak their own language, but few can explain why it works the way it does. That is what I offer: Spanish taught as a system you can understand, with special attention to what tends to trip up Dutch and English speakers, like ser and estar, the past tenses, and the subjunctive. I work with everyone from absolute beginners to advanced speakers looking to refine what they already have.
